ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have worked with several different art media over the years, searching for essential results that are specific to that medium. I think that there are two directions to go in photography — one is to record the reality of objects in front of the photographer, the otehr is to transfer the images inside the photographer on to photographic paper. I am interested in this latter path.

Water is one subject I feel very close to. Water is often described as taking any shape it is guided into, and yet my own experience of water is that it has an aggressive, powerful presence. It goes where it wants to, asserting itself. I have tried to capture that impression.

When I sit in the car wrapped with a curtain of rain, I know the sight in front of me, which is projected on my retina, seems quite familiar to me, yet I feel I am lost in a strange place and cannot tell where it is. The only sure thing is that I am in this spot right now, and click the shutter as if I need proof of my being there.
