ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have been a member of Gallery 9 since 1973. A graduate of the University of Iowa, my training began in high school with trips to New York's Museum of Modern Art. I went often on the double-decker bus and fell in love with Cezanne, Matisse, Hopper.

The Landscape became my passion when we moved to California with its oaks and golden hills. When our children went to college I appropriated the living room with its Bay view and north light. It became a wonderful place for still life painting.

My July 2011 exhibit at Gallery 9 celebrates the local open spaces I treasure. I go with canvas, paints and easel to Palo Alto's Arastradero Preserve, the GGNRA in west Marin and Tahoe. The wind and changing sun make me a bit crazy but grateful for these spaces.
